Estate Visconti
The agricultural company Visconti Sas has its headquarters in Breme (Pv), in Via dei Visconti. The company headquarters consists of a complex of historic buildings that continue to perform the functions of a modern company. In Valmacca (Al), on the opposite bank of the Po, there is another historical building, the farmstead known as Torre d'Isola, which is indicated as a building of historical and cultural importance.
The farm manage plots of land owned by the family or of state property (in concession through special agreements) for a total of 930 hectares between Piedmont and Lombardy, on both sides of the Po river, between the confluence of the Sesia and Rotaldo rivers, in the municipalities of Bozzole, Frassineto Po, Valmacca, Breme and Sartirana Lomellina. The plots of land are situated both in and out of the floodplain.
The company's activity consists in the production of cereals (including traditional varieties of valuable rice) and wood (mainly poplar for industry and, to a lesser extent, firewood) with certified sustainable forest management, as well as niche horticultural production (red onion of Breme De.C.O.). The company also conducts, mainly on state land, environmental maintenance activities on woods and natural areas. The Lomellina plain constitutes an agro-ecosystem strongly anthropized and with productive connotation. Here you can find most of the farm's arable land, which are cultivated with rice and/or corn. In the area past the floodplain there are also some poplar groves, while there are no autochthon broadleaved plants.
Soil occupations show about 520 ha, of which about 240 are arable lands, or fallow and rotational lands with poplar groves and the remaining 280 are woodland, while about 200 ha are covered by natural woods, grasslands and shrubs and another 200 ha are gravel and water.
